Sentence per Picture

There is so much going on in the Duncan household and I have been really awful at capturing all these special memories we have been making lately. We have family in town, so we have been spending lots of quality time with them, which has been really nice. Thankfully, I captured a few pics and wanted to share them on here. So this post is short, sweet, and a whole bunch of random.

Mimi is in town and Carson would not let her hold him for the first couple of days (he has been so clingy), but finally let her hold him on Sunday!

My sister had her annual Christmas concert at Glendale glitters. We have gone to this for years now and it has become a fun tradition for us. Last year, Carson was only a week old and we still went!

Carson has learned the “More” sign recently and I’m pretty sure I have never been more proud. Its been a work in progress and something we have been teaching him since he was 6 months old. I was convinced he would still be grunting at 40 whenever he wanted “more” of something.

Jordan sent me this picture the other day while I was at work and it made me so happy. Note that he is still doing the “more” sign. love it!

We had ugly sweater day at work yesterday, so Jordan snapped this pic for me before I left. He got up at 5:30 am (on his week off from work) to make me coffee and see me off to work. He’s the best.

Last week, we went to Kierland with the Duncan clan (another yearly tradition). Always such a fun time and something we look forward to every year! Big thanks to my sweet sis-in-law for taking our picture!

Truthful Fridays

This segment is what I like to call truthful Fridays. Its where I talk about whatever is on my mind that has happened throughout the week. Some of it is silly, some serious, and some you could probably care less about. But here it goes..

  • Some days, most days, I drink more coffee than water. Except when I was on this water kick like 3 months ago and was drinking 100 plus oz. of water a day. I really need to go back to doing that and I’m pretty sure my liver will thank for me it.
  • I invite people over to my house just so I’m forced to deep clean it. Okay, I am partially kidding, but seriously, it gets the job done.
  • I’ve never been a huge star wars fan and I am still genuinely confused about which ones are in order. I grew up watching little Anakin in Star Wars: Episode I (more like, my brother would watch it and then I would catch little glimpses here and there) and then somebody told me last year that little Anakin becomes darth vader and it made me so sad (I know, your thinking, has this girl been living under a rock?). When I was like seven years old though, I thought little Anakin was the cutest thing ever, so I was so really upset he turned into a bad guy and apparently, he isn’t the greatest guy now in real life either. Okay, enough about star wars..
  • I bought sour gummy worms the other day at sprouts and told Jordan that they were for him ( he loves gummy worms), but really I just bought them for me. #excuses

gummy worms

  • I love teeth
  • Jordan and I were just saying the other day how sad we are that Christmas is already next week. We love this season but hate that it goes so fast. There are still so many Christmassy things left that we want to do.

jordan and carson tree

  • I’m to lazy to plug my phone in before bed, because that means I have to get out of bed. So I usually end up randomly charging my phone here and there throughout the day. Or I ask Jordan to get out of bed and plug it in for me. #Heisakeeper
  • It’s 6am in the morning while I am writing this and I am currently eating popcorn from yesterday.  #popcornforbreakfast
  • I almost always pick the worst times to bake. Its always when Carson is really cranky or right before his bedtime. So my cookies usually end up looking like this, because I am in such a rush to get it done, because Carson is hanging on my leg screaming #reallife #blobcookies

Baby green smoothies

I’m so glad Carson is at an age now were we can give him a much greater variety of things to eat. Even though Carson will mostly eat anything I give him, his diet still seems to mostly consist of anything cheesy/carby. Which doesn’t surprise me, cause that’s all I craved when I was pregnant with him. Cheese bagels with butter were my jam!

Recently, I’ve been trying to add more greens and veggies into his diet. Some of Carson’s favorite foods are bananas, oatmeal, cheese cubes, cheerios, bread, greek yogurt, kiwi, avocado, and against my better judgment a bite of dad’s donut every now and then! Notice how no veggies were listed? Don’t get me wrong, he does eat veggies just not on a daily basis. Even then, he doesn’t necessarily love them like the foods listed above. So since it’s kind of hard to give a 1 year old salad, I decided to give him a spinach smoothie with banana and frozen strawberries. And much to my surprise, he loved it! Also, it kept him occupied for about 20 min. in his highchair while I did the dishes, so I’m all for that!

Ingredients:

  • Handful of Spinach
  • 1/4 of  a banana
  • 3 or 4 frozen strawberries
  • 4 Tablespoons of water

I used the baby bullet, which is perfect, because its tiny and super easy to clean. Its so nice to not have to lug out our huge ninja blender for such a small smoothie.

Carson’s Milk and Cookies Party

I had such a fun time planning out Carson’s first birthday party and have actually known for a while that I wanted to do a milk and cookies theme. I just love the idea and I love cookies. So it worked out perfectly. Except now I have way to many leftover cookies in my house, which is not a good thing! I was really worried the week of his party, because Carson was really sick with the croup, so that meant I didn’t get as much done as I wanted to for his party. But thankfully, everything worked out and his party was a success. I am pretty sure I over stress about everything, so I had to keep reminding myself that it’s ok if everything is NOT perfect.

I was so busy throughout his party that I totally forgot to take pictures, but thankfully my mom took a ton! I can always count on her for pictures! Thanks, mom! Also, Thank you so much to everyone that came and made Carson’s big day so special! He is so blessed to have so many people that love and care for him!

For the milk bottles, I made Jordan drink the big box of Starbuck’s frappucino bottles from Costco, washed them, and then scrubbed off the sticker part. They were perfect and the most cheapest option for vintage milk bottles. My mother-in-law also had a few that she purchased at Michaels that we used in addition! Here is a really great tutorial on how to take the sticker label off of a Frappuccino bottle.

HEALTHY banana bread

I made this banana bread the other day and as I was making it, I was almost certain it wasn’t going to turn out. I’m not sure why but I was so skeptical! Partly why I think I was so skeptical of it turning out was because of the ingredients. They were all healthy! But to my surprise, all the ingredients mixed together make the most perfectly moist and deliscous banana bread you ever tasted. I decided to post the recipe on here, because it will definitely be one I make in the future for years to come! Even Jordan liked it, which is saying a lot about this banana bread! Jordan usually doesn’t like “healthy” versions of stuff! Lol okay enough rambling already.. Here is the recipe! Enjoy!!

HEALTHY banana bread

Ingredients:

  1. 3 mashed bananas
  2. 1/4 cup of coconut oil
  3. 5 eggs
  4. 1 TBS of maple syrup
  5. 1/2 cup of coconut flour
  6. 2 tsp. of baking powder
  7. 2 tsp. of vanilla extract
  8. 2 tsp. of ground cinnamon
  9. 1 tsp. of salt
  10. 1/4 cup of flaxseed
  11. 1/4 cup of chocolate chips or blueberries
  12. Handful of chopped nuts (I used almonds)

Mix all ingredients together and pour in a greased loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 min. Let it cool for about 15 min. and enjoy!

Carson’s first snow day!

We went up to flagstaff last weekend to visit Jordan’s brother and to also play in the snow. It was Carson’s first time ever, so it was a fun experience! He didn’t care for the snow to much, but he did enjoy looking around. Flagstaff is basically a “college town” but has the cutest little shops, coffee houses, and awesome cafes! It is always so beautiful up there and makes me want to move every time we go! We had a great time and always look forward to our next trip up the mountain!

But first, coffee!

Church Retreat 2015

Every year our church goes up north a couple hours to Prescott, Arizona for the weekend in the fall. This was our 4th year going and it was extra special this year because we got to bring Carson along with us. Carson had a great time and really enjoyed all that the woods had to offer. He is obsessed with twigs and stumps now! We ate, relaxed, played games, roasted marshmallows, studied the Word, sang worship songs, ate and then ate some more! All in All, it was a great weekend spent worshipping Jesus with our church FRamily!

Pumpkin Patch Fun

Jordan and I decided to take Carson to the Pioneer Village Pumpkin Patch this past weekend. Besides the fact that it was almost 100 degrees out, we had a lot of fun and Carson really enjoyed looking around. I can’t wait till he gets a little older and can enjoy all the things that they had to offer a little more. They had jump houses, face painting, hay rides, a hay maze, pumpkin painting, and a gun/magic show! I think Carson’s favorite thing was watching the goats at the petting zoo and picking out a pumpkin. He thought the goats were hilarious, and every time they would make a noise he would start laughing! So cute! Overall, it was a great time and we were exhausted afterwards!

They had an adult sack race there, so I practically begged Jordan to do it . Of course, he won and scored us a free entree to rubios and a gift card to the coffee bean! I knew he was good for something! ;)

Afterwards, we were so exhausted, so we picked up some lunch and then I’m pretty sure we slept the rest of the afternoon. I think partly why it was so tiring was because it was so hot outside! I remember telling Jordan “I couldn’t imagine going to Disneyland with a ten month old! Going to a pumpkin patch is exhausting enough!” Regardless, it was still some great quality time spent with each other! So thankful for this little family of mine!

First weekend of fall

You would think for the first weekend of fall I would have some exciting pictures of us at a pumpkin patch or us taking a walk with the different colored leaves in the background. But nope, this weekend was pretty low key and we didn’t do to much. We spent a lot of time with friends and family which always makes for a good weekend. Friday night we went to my moms for dinner, we usually do every Friday for family dinner. We had taco crescents (it’s like taco meat baked in a crescent roll), it is so yummy. I also had a glass of wine, which is strange because I usually don’t like wine but this kind was very good!

I set my alarm really early on Saturday morning so I could get a run in before Carson woke up. I was able to run 5 miles and got done around 6:30am. I have been really happy with my running lately, I have been running close to 9 minute miles. When I first started running after having Carson, I was running over 10 minute miles, so I am slowly but surely getting faster so that was encouraging. After my run, we made our usual run to Starbucks. Venti vanilla iced coffee and room for cream please.

Saturday morning we went to Jordan’s grandparents house for brunch for my sweet sister in law and my nephews baby shower. We had Cinnabon, fruit salad, and an egg casserole. As much as I wanted one I stayed away from the cinnamon roll! Jordan ate one for me though, he had three! I’m pretty sure Jordan had dreams of Cinnabon all weekend. He is obsessed.

Saturday afternoon, I was in a baking mood, so I made these banana chocolate chip cookies and they were so delicious. They are actually almost all gone and Jordan and I didn’t share them with anybody!

Saturday night we walked around norterra for a little while and went into a Halloween store to look at costumes. Of course, Jordan had to try on the Obama costume. My work is dressing up for Halloween and we are all dressing up as the characters from Alice in wonderland so of course I was chosen to be Alice. But I will definitely not be paying 50$ dollars for my Alice costume! It is so crazy how expensive Halloween costumes are. It was fun to look around though and see all the different costumes and such.

For dinner, we decided on In n Out, which is never a bad idea. We met my brother and his wife for dinner and chatted about hygiene school. My brother starts dental hygiene school today, I am so excited for him! Anyways, Carson was making all sorts of faces and it wasn’t long before he started practicing his velociraptor screams and we had to leave.

Sunday morning we attempted church, but Carson was practicing his screams again and his new thing lately has been biting mommy. I would be lying if I said it was an easy weekend. This weekend was tough and Carson has really been testing by patience lately. He is at a weird age right now where he doesn’t really understand when we discipline him for biting, screaming, etc. I am trying to teach him “no, we don’t bite” but he just does it again. Ugh! So anyways church hadn’t even started for 10 minutes and he was already screaming and biting, so I decided to just take him home and do church by myself.

my battle wounds aka Carsons teeth marks

After jordan got home from church I went on a 4 mile run and it was so hot and nasty out. So I was definitely a lot slower than normal. So ready for it to start cooling down here! Sunday afternoon, we spent with family at Jordan’s grandparents and visited with his uncle who was in town. It was nice having the whole family together!

This morning, I woke up really early just so I could get some alone time in and spend some time with the lord before Carson woke up. I am Physically, mentally, and spiritually preparing for the week ahead. Parenting is hard. I am thankful for God’s grace this morning and I know “this too shall pass.”  A lot of Jesus and a lot of coffee will be my fuel this week. It’s not even 7am and I am working on my second cup! Happy Monday!

High Five for Friday #3

Happy Friday! It has been quite the week so I am really happy Friday is here. We have a few things planned for this weekend but will mostly be relaxing and we might even throw a date night in the plans! I’m glad this weekend will be spent relaxing because October is a crazy month! Without further ado, Here are a few things I am loving this week!

-one-

I bought This cookie butter from Trader Joes a couple weeks ago and I have been putting it on everything! It is so so good! My snack almost everyday this week has consisted of Granny Smith apples with cookie butter spread on top! So yummy! I also threw a couple tablespoons into a batch of cookies I was making earlier this week and it added the perfect amount of extra sweetness!

-two-

Wednesday morning was a tough morning, Carson was spilling Cheerios everywhere and then knocked Penny’s food bowl over causing all her food to scatter across the floor. I have caught him so many times with dog food in his mouth this week! Thankfully, I don’t think he has swallowed any yet though! So after all this craziness happening and considering it wasn’t even 8am yet, I quickly put Carson in the car and we drove to the closest hiking trails. I put him in the carrier on my back and he had a blast. It was really nice to just get out of the house and get some fresh air! Plus, when he is strapped to me he can’t get into anything!

-three-

I have been making this protein pumpkin smoothie that I posted a while ago a lot lately! I’m pretty sure I have had it for lunch almost everyday this week! It is so yummy and fills me up till dinner! And it’s only 300 calories!

smoothie

-four-

I set up a few fall decorations this week and just seeing these little fall decorations around the house make me so happy! I love all the different colors of fall, they are just so warm and inviting!

-five-

SAMs club is offering a free membership for new moms or pregnant mamas! I was so happy to hear this and even though most of my family shops at Costco I still think I am going to take advantage of this deal! They are offering it up to September 29th, so only a few more days left! Here is a link that goes into better detail of what all the offer entails!

What are some things you are loving this week? Have a great weekend!
